A BALLYNAHINCH boy is a world champion Irish dancer.
Nine-year-old Corin Murray beat the competition to receive a perfect score in the minor boys category at the Cumann Rince Dea Mheasa (CRDM) World Championships held in Dublin last week.
Starting his journey with the Murray School of Irish Dance in his home town just two years ago, Corin has quickly risen through the ranks, only last month winning a title at the Dublin Championships.
It’s the fantastic culmination of what is something of a family affair.
Corin has developed his dancing skills under the expert guidance of his grandmother, Catherine Murray, and his aunt, Aislinn McKee, as well as
Orla O’Hare, who are all qualified teachers of the Festival Dance Teachers Association (FDTA).
Corin has actively participated in both FDTA and Cumann Rince Dea Mheasa (CRDM) competitions over the past two years, demonstrating his skills against some of the best dancers in Ireland.
Corin was crowned Belfast FDTA champion in January and secured a runners-up position in the Ulster Championships last October, along with a third-place finish in the prestigious Northern Ireland Championships in February.
Speaking after his world title win, Corin’s mother, Leona, said: “We are beyond proud of Corin and all the hard work, dedication, and passion he has put into achieving this incredible milestone.
“Winning a world championship is a dream come true, and we are delighted to see his efforts recognised on the global stage. This is a moment our family and our community will never forget.”
The Murray School of Irish Dancing said it was “very proud” of Corin and that his passion was “evident in his commitment to practice, attending dance classes three times a week and dedicating time for daily practice”.
The school added: “Corin’s journey is a testament to his determination and love for Irish dancing, and we look forward to seeing him continue to shine in the years to come. Congratulations Corin on your outstanding achievements.”
