AN Irish speakers open day in Ballymote in Downpatrick has been hailed a great success.
The event, organised by Cumann Bhaile an Mhóta, was attended by Newry Mourne and Down council chairperson Michael Savage, Cathy Mason MLA and Cllr Gareth Sharvin.
The event was overseen by facilitator Sínead Toman, a teacher in Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, who performed the assessments.
Sínead is a native of Downpatrick who began her Irish education with Naíscoil Dhún Pádraig and then attended Bunscoil Mhuire agus Pádraig.
She then studied at Coláiste Feirste before completing her Irish speaking education in Queen’s University and St Mary’s, Belfast.
Cumann Bhaile an Mhóta wish to thank the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and County Down Rural Community Network for the use of the Community House in Ballymote and their ongoing support.
They paid tribute to everyone who attended the Open Day, especially those who took their silver and gold Fáinne Assessments.
Special thanks was offered to the musicians for the wonderful traditional music and song, and to our members, Eileen and Tammy, for the hospitality.
Cumann Bhaile an Mhóta was established five years ago and hopes are high that it will be able to offer further classes and even a homework club next year.
