A SEAFORDE teenager is revving up to be a motocross star of the future.
Fourteen year-old Nathan Green has taken the local motocross scene by storm and has just been crowned Ulster 85cc champion after a series of race wins.
Nathan also represented Northern Ireland at an international meeting at the end of last month in Luton.
Nathan made the star-studded field sit up and take notice when he won all four races he took part in, but it wasn’t enough to help the MCCNI team to overall victory.
Nathan, whose great uncle Norman Green owns the nearby Seaforde Motocross Park, first started competitive racing four years ago and he has taken to the sport like a duck to water.
“He is a natural,” his dad William said. “He just loves the cut and thrust of the sport and thrives on its competitive nature.
“He is stepping up a few grades next season to the 250cc bikes and he is preparing to get into better physical shape for that,” he added.
“He is fully aware of the risks in racing as a few of his friends have been injured, but nothing puts him off and he is totally focused on winning.”
Nathan is fully aware of what he has to do to compete on a level playing field with the big boys in the next year or so and he is putting in all the hand work now.
“I do a lot of small weights, pull-ups and sit-ups in a bid to build my core strength, but I enjoy that as well. I want to be as competitive as I can in every race and I am sure that being in good physical shape will help me achieve that,” he said.
“I can’t wait for the new season to start next March when I will be racing at my favourite tracks in Liatroim and Seaforde. I’m really looking forward to the new challenges ahead.
“I would like to thank Green Electrical, McCoubreys Electrical, Reids Feeds, Doormatics, James Glover and Sons Farm Feeds, 212 Motorsports, Judith Long Opticians, J &W McCall Supplies and Brennans Spar and Ice cream for their kind sponsorship.
Nathan would like to thank his parents, grandparents, Lindsay Newell, Norman Green and Joel Brown for their help and support.
Nathan may be involved in a highly competitive sport, but he has the will and determination to be a major success.
“I know it is not possible, but I want to win every race that I take part in,” he added.
With that sort of desire he is going to be hard to stop.
