SEAFORDE Women's Institute celebrated its 60th anniversary recently.
In 1965, 12 ladies got together and Seaforde WI was formed. Among the founder members were Pearl Shaw, Kathleen Hanna and Lil Dickson.
The 60th anniversary celebrations were held at Temple Golf Club where the members were joined by We were joined by the WI’s National Federation chair, Brenda Richardson, together with Quoile Executive member Judith Wainwright, who is also the Seaforde WI secretary, and presidents from Annalong, Crossgar, Killinchy, Slievenaman and Spa Women’s Institutes.
Entertainment by the "Crukes " and their ukulele band and there was great trip down memory lane with 1960s music.
Thanks were extended to the club for a wonderful meal and service, and to “Bespoke Cakes by Beverley" for the amazing anniversary cake.
Crossgar
THE members of Crossgar Women’s Institute a very informative talk by Wilson and Joanne Johnston, from The Heart of Down Red Squirrels Group, at their October meeting.
They told the ladies about the behaviour of red and grey squirrels and pine martens, raising awareness of the risks to the red squirrel population in Northern Ireland and across the UK.
The guest speaker for the meeting on November 10 is from the NI Fire and Rescue Service, who will talk about fire safety. The competition will be for a safety tip.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the Masonic Hall, The Square. New members are welcome.
