POLICE have seized a quantity of illicit preion drugs with an estimated street value of £86,400 in the area.

Officers from Ardmore Local Policing Team’s D-Section and Slieve Gullion Neighbourhood Team and the District Support Team made the sizeable seizure of class C drugs at a location which has not been identified.

PSNI District Commander, Superintendent Norman Haslett, said police strive every day to keep local people safe including “all-out efforts” to tackle the illegal supply of drugs and the inevitable fallout.

“We’ve seen the devastation that illicit drugs bring,” said the police chief.

“Drugs which haven’t been prescribed by your doctor, or are taken in a way not advised by your GP, simply aren’t safe. There’s also the very real issue of counterfeit drugs, whose unknown components can be deadly.”

Superintendent Haslett said that right across the country, police are working with partners on the Organised Crime Task Force to tackle the scourge of drugs at a local level and are relying on the public’s support.

Police are asking anyone with information that can help them with their investigations into those involved in the drug trades to contact them using the non-emergency 101 number.
