£575k Ballynahinch road improvement scheme

16 July 2025

WORK starts next Monday on a £575,000 road improvement scheme at the Ballynahinch Road in Crossgar.

News of the start date has been confirmed by Stormont roads minister Liz Kimmins.

The near two kilometre resurfacing scheme extends from the Saintfield Road/Ballynahinch Road junction to a point 200 metres east of the Church Road junction.

Ms Kimmins said the “substantial investment” will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area.

She said the project demonstrates her commitment to improving the road network which is vital for connecting businesses and communities.

The Minister also thanked residents, businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement a road closure from Monday to Friday to facilitate drainage and kerbing works from Monday next Monday until Friday, August 22 between 8am and 6pm.

In addition, a full road closure will also be required to facilitate carriageway resurfacing work, with these closuring taking place from Monday to Friday between August 25 and September 19 between9.30am to 4pm.

The road will be open to traffic overnight and at weekends.

Diversions will be via a number of adjoining roads, with the Department for Infrastructure explaining it has carefully programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience.

And while it says steps have been taken to accommodate local access for residents and bus services, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works.

Road users are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and it’s hoped work on the scheme will be completed by September 19.
