DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a shot was fired at a house in Downpatrick on Monday night. Officers, who have launched an investigation, say a woman was in the house, on the Colmcille Road, at the time.
They are now trying to trace a man spotted leaving the area and making his way towards nearby fields.
The woman has told officers that she heard a loud bang outside her home, at around 9.45pm. She then went outside and discovered what police have described as “a strike mark” on the wall beside the kitchen window.
Issuing an appeal for the community’s assistance, a detective sergeant confirmed that “a male wearing a grey and black coat and blue trousers was noted leaving the area following the incident in the direction of nearby fields.”
He continued: “An investigation is under way and I would appeal to anyone who was in this area of Downpatrick at the time and who noticed anything suspicious, or who may have dash-cam or doorbell footage that could help with our enquiries, to get in touch.”
If you have any information which can assist the investigation, detectives can be contacted on 101, quoting reference number 929/09/26, or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
