Rising local martial arts star Luna Harris dominated the mats in the five-seven-year-old division at the Savage Martial Arts National Championships on Saturday past, securing both a gold and a silver medal in an impressive display.
Building on her previous success in April, when she brought home a silver medal in the Grappling division at the same tournament in Dublin, the six-year-old from Downpatrick once again showed her versatility by stepping beyond the grappling mats to compete in the striking and aerial disciplines in Belfast.
Luna claimed gold in the Sparring category, producing a series of impressive performances that showcased her striking ability, sharp defensive counters and tactical awareness.
She also secured silver in the Flying Side-kick competition, demonstrating athleticism, timing and explosive power in the high-flying discipline.
Saturday’s double-medal performance marks another significant milestone for Luna, adding Sparring gold and Flying Side-kick silver to her previous Grappling silver, demonstrating her ability to compete successfully across a range of different martial arts disciplines.
Commenting on her achievements, Luna’s mum and dad, Shauna and Jason Harris, said they were “over the moon”.
“We’re immensely proud of her achievements, there was hundreds of kids taking part in Luna’s division, so for her to come home with silver and gold is a phenomenal achievement.
“We’re over the moon with her performance.”
