A COUNCIL committee has agreed that additional funding should be provided for Downpatrick’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Town councillor Oonagh Hanlon welcomed Monday’s decision by the Economy, Regeneration and Tourism Committee to back her proposal for extra dedicated investment for the local annual festivities.
The closed session endorsement will now be tabled for ratification by full council in September.
In a statement, the Sinn Féin representative said that the funding will “support increased school and community engagement, alongside enhanced programming to further develop the town’s celebrations”.
“I am delighted that the committee has ratified my proposal for dedicated funding to strengthen Downpatrick’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations,” she stated.
