Planners have recommended that a proposal for a new glamping site outside Drumaness be given the green light.
The application for “six glamping pods with associated siteworks and landscaping for a small, recreational holiday park” – on lands at Downpatrick Road adjacent to Pollramer Lake – was submitted in June 2024 by Justin Kelly, and the approval recommendation was published in recent weeks.
A planning report notes that each pod will have “a maximum height of 2.8m and a floor space of 6.7m x 3.2m (21.5 square metres)”.
“They will be designed with a low-profile barrel roof, timber-effect composite cladding and a timber door,” it reads.
“Internally, the pods will contain a sleeping area, sitting area, shower room and kitchenette.
“Each pod will have a screening hedgerow and small seating area with picnic bench.”
The document highlights that “the site currently benefits from mature roadside vegetation, which effectively screens the site on approach from both directions along Downpatrick Road”.
“The proposed plans indicate that this vegetation will be retained, insofar as it relates to the trees behind the hedges to be trimmed for visibility, so the pods will be screened by the natural landscape,” it continues.
“The proposed layout is comprised of six pods dispersed throughout the site.
“Each pod will have its own private amenity area screened by hedging.”
