An inspirational Downpatrick woman has been praised for her “incredible achievements” at the recent Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games.
Jackie Stewart returned home from the Games, which were held in Dublin, with a gold medal and a silver medal.
Jackie competed alongside more than 1,000 athletes from across Ireland at the three-day event, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of Special Olympics Ireland.
Competitors showcased their talents across a wide range of sports, including golf, swimming, bowling, equestrian, table tennis and Bocce.
The Games were attended by the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly.
Representing Down Special Olympics Sports Club, Jackie teamed up with Bocce partner Chris Craig to win gold in the pairs competition, while also claiming an individual silver medal.
The pair are now hoping to secure selection for Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games in Santiago, Chile, next year.
Jackie is a resident of the South Eastern Trust’s Struell Lodge supported housing, and the manager of Struell Lodge, Claire Shaw, congratulated her on her remarkable success.

“Winning gold and silver is a fantastic reward for her hard work, determination and sporting talent.
