Eight weeks of Killyleagh football end on a high

THE 2026 Killyleagh Summer League concluded last Wednesday evening with its annual presentation night at the Bridge Centre playing fields.

The final night of action closed with the annual presentation evening for the boys and girls, when each young player received a trophy, crisps, sweets and a drink.

Children of primary school age have been playing in four age categories across four pitches for the full hour at the Bridge Centre playing fields for eight weeks since the beginning of May.

League chairman Chris Hagan thanked parents for their continued support and paid tribute to the unsung heroes of the league, coaches Chris Pickering, David Thompson and Hugh Young.

Chairman Chris pointed out that this was the fifth consecutive summer, since reopening after the Covid lockdown, that not one week of the league was missed due to wet weather.

Thanks were extended to Henderson’s Eurospar in Killyleagh for sponsoring drinks and crisps for each player, to the staff at the Bridge Centre, to David Ross, and to the ground staff of Newry, Mourne and Down Council for preparing the pitches each week.
