SAINTFIELD United stalwart David Morrow says he is “delighted and humbled” after being elected Second Deputy President of the Irish Football Association.
Morrow was elected to the role at an IFA Council meeting following last week’s AGM. He will serve alongside Mid-Ulster FA chairman Maurice Johnston, who was elected First Deputy President, under new IFA President Colin McKendry, the former Coleraine FC chairman.
“I’m delighted and humbled to be appointed to the role and to have the support of my fellow IFA Council members,” Morrow said.
“It’s a great opportunity and a real privilege. I’m keen to get started and gain a greater understanding of all the different areas the IFA covers.”
Morrow’s football journey began with Saintfield United at the age of 16 before he spent two seasons with Ards’ reserve team. He later returned to Saintfield, where he captained the club and became one of its all-time leading appearance-makers.
After retiring from playing, he served as the club’s treasurer for a decade before becoming vice-chairman and now serves on the club committee.
In recent years, Morrow has overseen several major capital development projects at Pigeon Hill, including the installation of an intermediate-standard pitch in 2019 and the recent completion of a new 3G multi-use games area.
The corporate bank manager also chairs the County Antrim FA’s Steel and Sons Cup committee and has served on the board of the Northern Amateur Football League for the past seven years.
Explaining his new position, Morrow said it encompasses every level of the local game.
“The role entails everything from grassroots football right through to the international game,” he said.
“It’s about supporting the president. There are various events that the president or deputy president attends on behalf of the IFA, whether that’s supporting international teams at any level in the men’s or women’s game.
“You’re also officially a director of the company, so it involves sitting on the IFA board as well.”
