RAIN failed to halt play as the Killyleagh Summer League played its fourth week of games last Wednesday night.
The action at the Bridge Centre playing fields was in doubt right up to kick-off time, as the heavy showers made for a complete change from the previous week.
TINIES
Not surprisingly, numbers were reduced in the Tinies section but there were still star performances from Ember Clarke, Lily Kearney, Amelia Greene, Theo Gurr, Caleb Taylor and Shayne Ross.
The penalty queens were Ember Clarke and Amelia Greene, with Caleb Taylor the penalty king.
SENIORS
The standard of play in the Senior section improves by the week and there are some standout players who show promise of a significant career ahead.
Top marksman on the night was Ned Keenan who grabbed two goals in the opening game. The Berezun twins were both on the mark, with Illia scoring before his brother Viktor got off the mark, after top-scoring last week.
Best for the girls were Seren Carr, Hope Morrow, Isla Savage, Rose Keenan and Maddison Quigley.
There were top performances too from Dylan O’Connor, Leyton Savage, Jack McCourt, Jacob Watters and Jude McGill.
The penalty kings were Illia Berezun and Leyton Savage, with Isla Savage the penalty queen.
MINORS
This week, due to the weather and low turnout, players were brought together in a mixed group. It was great to see the passing between the ages.
Ryan and Zac were outstanding in nets, while Elliott had no fear tackling boys older than him.
Louis showed his skills and his teamwork by swapping teams halfway through to help others. Frank showed some great skills on the ball. James was outstanding for his team, with many efforts on goal. Carson and Regan were involved in some strong tackles against each other.
Arabella, Sophia and Haylia held their own against boys two years their senior.
JUNIORS
There were no penalty queens or kings this week due to the adverse weather conditions.
- The league resumes for the Tinies, Minors and Juniors tonight at 7pm. The Seniors kick off at 8pm.
- With heavy rain again forecast for tonight, parents are asked to keep a watch on the Summer League Facebook page in case of postponement due to the weather.
