CONFIDENCE has been key to Ardglass’s fantastic run of form this season.
They have won nine games out of nine in Division Four, following up their successful 2025 campaign when they won the Junior Championship for the first time since 2002.
Manager Peter O’Shea explained why the footballers are a different animal of late.
“The boys have been told for too long by certain people that they weren’t good enough, and they aren’t good enough.
“But they have bought into it and have started believing that they are good enough.
“There is a good crop of footballers there.”
It is Peter’s third year as manager. He has been involved in all four of Ardglass’s Junior Championship title wins. He played in the three previous championship-winning seasons (1994, 2000, 2002) and managed them to their fourth.
“They were mad to get the Junior Championship after 23 years,” Peter said of his squad.
“After the Junior Championship success of last year, the boys came back wanting to make a real go of Division Four.
“The goal is promotion. We are into the Intermediate Championship. That is the bonus.
“Hopefully we can bring a wee bit of form into the championship.”
Their form of winning nine games in a row has been remarkable.
“I thought at the start of the year that we would try to get through the first three games and stay in touching distance. But we won our first three games.
“I was not surprised. But we had had no match time, or no pre-season, with the weather.”
