HOLY Family PS Teconnaught proudly celebrated its 60th anniversary on Sunday, 7 June, with a memorable day of reflection, celebration and community spirit.
The celebrations began with a special Mass in Holy Family Church, celebrated by Fr Derek Kearney. School principal Mrs Geraldine Sproule welcomed everyone with an opening introduction to the day.
Pupils, parents, staff and governors, both past and present, all played an important role throughout the liturgy. The pupils of Holy Family PS also provided beautiful music during the celebration, with the choir led by vice-principal Mrs Laura Gilchrist.
During the Mass, gifts representing the work of the school and its strong links with the Teconnaught community were brought to the altar. Former teacher Mrs Pauline Beattie presented the school’s original crest, while P6 pupil Orlaith Oakes brought forward the newly designed commemorative crest which she helped create to mark the school’s 60-year milestone.
Mr Joe Kearney reflected warmly on his experiences as a former pupil, parent and governor, as well as his involvement with the school’s 60th anniversary committee.
Margaret Ritchie also shared memories of her years as a pupil and spoke about how former principal Mr Denis Cahill inspired her to look beyond Teconnaught and broaden her horizons.
Following Mass, everyone gathered at the school to enjoy refreshments, share memories and celebrate six wonderful decades of Holy Family Primary School.
A range of photographic displays featuring former pupils, staff and families gave visitors the opportunity to reflect on the school’s rich history. Videos showcased memorable moments from the official opening of the school in 1966 by William Philbin through to key events across the years.
The celebrations continued with a barbecue, bouncy castles and music from Saffyre, all enjoyed by the huge crowd who attended this very special occasion.
