Darragh Cross travelled to St John’s last week for round seven of the Division Three league and came away with a comfortable win following a clinical opening to the game.

Cormac Duffy opened the scoring, Anton McGrattan fired over a two-pointer and Michael Monan saw a goalbound shot flicked over the bar in the opening minutes.

From the next play, good work from Monan created a chance which Matt Boyle slotted to the net.

Darragh hit the net again three minutes later when Monan finished another flowing move, to leave Darragh 2-4 to 0-3 ahead after only ten minutes.

St John’s steadied themselves with a two-point free from their goalkeeper, and the sides traded points for the remainder of the half.

Shane Murray, Matt Boyle, Anton McGrattan and Zac Leckie raised white flags for the visitors as Darragh led 2-8 to 0-8 at the break.

The Johnnies dominated the first few kick outs in the second half and trimmed the deficit with three points in the opening five minutes.

Darragh were relieved to get up the pitch and see Duffy slot over a free.

It got better for The Cross when Patrick McSorley first curled over a point before getting on the end of another swift attack to finish to the top corner of the net.

With an eight-point advantage, Darragh managed the remainder of the game well to see out the win.

Duffy, Leckie, Marcus Miskelly and Joe McKinney added points, with the home side tagging on four at the other end.
