Scenes for new TV show filmed in Killough

A NEW TV show has been filming in Killough in recent weeks. Local residents may have noticed some unusual activity in the area as an international television crew came to the village to film scenes for an upcoming television programme, ‘Committed’. The filming meant that Bingo was cancelled at the Killough Youth and Community Hall at the end of April and the Anne Boal Inn was renamed as ‘The Poacher’s Plum’ for the TV series.

A spokesperson for the production told the Mourne Observer: “We can confirm that ‘Committed’, starring Dustin Milligan and Diona Doherty, is currently filming in and around County Down, including the Killough Youth and Community Hall and the Ann Boal Inn. Production has also taken place across a number of locations in the wider area. We’ve received such a warm welcome from the local community during filming. The area looks beautiful on camera, and we look forward to sharing the series in winter 2027, on BBC Northern Ireland and CBC in Canada.”

‘Committed’ is a 10-part comedy series starring Derry comedian and actress Diona Doherty, who appears on BBC NI’s ‘The Blame Game’, and Dustin Milligan, who played Ted in the TV show ‘Schitt’s Creek’. Also appearing in the show will be Ian McIlhinney (who played the grandfather in ‘Derry Girls’), Seamus O’Hara (from ‘Blue Lights’ and ‘House of Guinness’) and Patrick Buchanan (who has been on ‘Soft Border Patrol’ and ‘Hope Street’).

‘Committed’ will tell the story of Peter, played by Dustin Milligan, a Canadian who falls in love with Julie, played by Diona Doherty, and travels to her “old-fashioned and eccentric rural Northern Ireland village” to tell her so, a spokesperson for BBC NI has said.

The TV show is going to continue filming in Killough next month too. A public notice has been published saying that temporary traffic control measures will be in place at Downpatrick Road, Station Road and Main Street in Killough on 2 and 3 June between 8am and 9pm due to filming on both days.

In addition to filming in County Down, additional scenes will be filmed in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The showrunner for ‘Committed’ is Tim Loane, who created the Channel 4 TV show ‘Teachers’. BBC Northern Ireland commissioning editor Jason Butler said that “audiences are going to fall in love with this bold new comedy series. We’ve a brilliant cast that viewers will be familiar with on both sides of the Atlantic – we’re delighted to welcome Dustin to these shores starring alongside our own Diona Doherty,” he said.
