MARK Magoran and Jay Edmonds came through a late-night thriller to win the BMF Doubles Championship following a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Darragh Cross duo of Daryl McLaughlin and Ciaran Murray.
The first frame started with both pairs making small contributions until the frame came down to the final pink. As the pink came to rest close to the yellow pocket, Ciaran stretched over to cut the pink in, only to look on in horror as he failed to make contact, leaving the pink over the pocket for Jay to knock home, giving the Drumaness pairing a one-frame lead.
The second frame proved to be a drawn-out affair, with the outcome only decided once again on the final colours. This time, Daryl stepped up and potted the frame-winning balls to force the match to a final frame decider.
After a tentative start from both pairs, the frame was locked at 45 points each with two reds remaining. Mark took both reds with colours to put the Drumaness duo in front, with only the colours remaining. After a long safety battle, Jay took his chance to pot yellow, green, and brown, leaving Daryl and Ciaran requiring snookers.
After several snookering attempts without success, Mark slotted the blue and pink in to take the match.
Many thanks to the Drumaness club for hosting the competition and to all those that came out to watch an enthralling match.
