Saintfield Striders’ twins complete marathon together

It was a smashing day for Saintfield Striders at Sunday’s Belfast City Marathon, with several club members joining over 23,000 runners taking part across the marathon and relay events. Conditions were kind, with good weather helping to make it a brilliant day for runners and supporters alike.

Seven Striders proudly took on the full marathon challenge: Richard Kerr, Simon Davey, Steven McMaster, Philip Jordan, Oonagh McElhinney, Laura Carson, and Jonny Kidd. Each of them showed tremendous determination, powering round the 26.2-mile course. It was a reward for all the hard training miles, early mornings, and dedication put in over recent months.

A special mention goes to Oonagh McElhinney and Jonny Kidd, who both completed their very first marathons—an incredible achievement. There were also countless Striders involved in the relay event, with teams running in support of a range of wonderful causes.

The standout performance came from Niamh O’Connor, who took on leg four but ended up running an incredible 11 miles to finish alongside her twin sister Orla, who was completing her first marathon. It was a brilliant display of determination, encouragement, and sisterly support.

The city was buzzing, and the support out on the course was second to none. From Stormont to Ormeau, Striders lined the route to cheer everyone on and keep spirits high from start to finish. Well done to everyone who ran, supported, volunteered, or cheered.

Rachel completes Dublin Half Marathon

Saintfield Striders had one representative at the Dublin Half Marathon this weekend, with Rachel Davison taking on the challenge solo. Rachel delivered a stellar performance, completing 13.1 miles in 1:57:36. The Dublin course is always lively and atmospheric, and she rose to the occasion brilliantly, with a strong, confident run from start to finish. A superb effort and a great result for Rachel.
