IT was fun in the sun in a balmy Crossgar on Saturday as those who had endured a summer of rain at the Crossgar Youth League were rewarded to a feast of glorious weather, champagne football, tasty burgers and fancy dress.
All that topped with a display of classic and sports cars and a live band made Crossgar the ‘go to’ destination this weekend.
Two representative teams of boys and girls from the U-6 and U-8 sections from the Crossgar Youth League and the Killyleagh Youth League played each other in two very competitive and sporting matches that entertained the crowds throughout finals day.
Special thanks go to Killyleagh for brining two great teams over to entertain the crowds.
In the adults’ competition organised by the Crossgar Community Association, The Usual Suspects were the winners beating the Lost Causes 3-1 in the final.
Scorers were Paddy McCartan, John Johnson and team captain Robert McGreevy, with the evergreen Cormac Kernan scoring a cracking consolation goal for the losers.
Some good defence from Art Kernan, Patrick Smyth ans Kevin Mulhern who came onto the pitch like a super hero when he saw the boys were a bit short.! The team was made up of a mixture of ladies and men and our thanks goes to everyone for taking part.
Finally, as another tremendous year of the Youth League comes to a close, we would like to thank all the children, parents, managers and the committee of Crossgar Youth League who have helped to make the league such a success this year.
Thanks also to everyone who helped with the staging, the bunting, the food and the stalls on Saturday. Special mention must also go to the dynamic duo of Paul Teggart and Eddie Craig who were always the first there and the last to leave each Tuesday and Thursday night and continue to put in the time and energy required to keep the Youth League going from strength to strength.
The Crossgar Youth League looks forward to seeing all the children and parents again at the annual awards presentations on September 8.
