Saintfield gets splash of colour in area revamp

A SMALL area in Saintfield has been transformed and is now a cornucopia of colour.

Land at the New Line has been given a horticultural overhaul after its adoption by the town’s community group.

The Saintfield Community Association is working in tandem with the Housing Executive and has installed new plants and shrubs at the site, after the housing body cleared the area for development.

The Housing Executive’s grounds maintenance supervisor, Neil Andrews, said the community group’s environmental greens committee asked if it could adopt and maintain a section of land to use as a garden.

“We thought it was a brilliant idea,” he continued.

“Working with the group the land has been improved significantly with the introduction of attractive flowering plants and shrubbery.”

Neil explained that Executive staff removed dead shrubs and replaced old kerbstones, while the community group purchased and planted the new greenery.

He added: “Thanks to the efforts of staff and the local community, the area now has a space for all to enjoy.”

Community Association representative, Vivien Lowell, said the organisation is “absolutely delighted” at the creation of a centrepiece for the area with help from the Housing Executive’s maintenance team.

She added: “As a community, we take great pride in our area and it is lovely to have the support of the Housing Executive in making these improvements.”
