Mrs. Mary Jane Harris

 

MRS. Mary Jane Harris, of Russell Park, Downpatrick, who died in the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, was an extremely popular member of her community. She was 88.

A wonderful, wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Harris’s family meant everything to her. She was married to her late husband Harry for 60 years and was never happier than when surrounded by her loving family.

She enjoyed many happy family occasions over the years, the most recent being the christening of her great granddaughter in April.

She was married in St. Patrick’s Church on June 3, 1947, and was a regular churchgoer throughout her life.

She was one of three children and was predeceased by her brothers, Harry and Louis Robinson. She worked as a bookkeeper and was later a childminder.

She took an active part in many social clubs and enjoyed going on outings. She was also an avid reader.

She showed kindness and quiet practical support to anyone in need. She was a great friend and a good neighbour. She had a life-long friendship with Kathleen Burns, who sadly died five years ago.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her children, Kieran, Aidan, Michelle and Linda, daughter-in-law Angela, sons-in-law Seamus and Greg, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her eldest daughter Marie passed away in 2004.

Requiem mass in St. Patrick’s Church on May 16 was celebrated by Canon Sean Rogan. The music was provided by Mary McCabe.
