Mr. Ronnie Poxon

MR. Ronnie Poxon, of 16 Quoile Fold, Market Street, Downpatrick, whose recent sudden death has been widely mourned, was a member of a long established Downpatrick family. He was 67.

Born in Saul Street to Mary and Wilfred Poxon, he was educated at the Southwell School and Downpatrick Intermediate School, now known as Blackwater Integrated College.

He began his working career as a parcel boy and later as a conductor for the Ulster Transport Authority. In 1970 he became an auxiliary constable with the RUC and served for 30 years. He also worked for Parcelforce and then, until his retirement, as a caretaker in Carryduff Primary School.

His two great passions in life were bowls and training athletes from the Down Special Olympics Club how to play bocce. The team has achieved great success in recent years, winning many gold and silver medals in competitions.

He is survived by his daughters, Carisa and Sharyl, son David and brothers Brian, Ian and Colin.

The funeral service in Down Parish Church on August 16 was conducted by the Rev. Stuart Burns and Dean Henry Hull.

Mr. Poxon will be sadly missed by his grieving family and everyone else whose lives he touched.
