SHIMNA Integrated College in Newcastle welcomed back past students and their families for its annual presentation evening before Christmas.
The event honoured the successes of students who received their GCSE and A Level certificates alongside numerous individual awards.
Principal Steve Pagan extended a warm welcome, emphasising the college's dedication to fostering excellence and integration.
Mr Pagan also noted the historic significance of the occasion.
He said: “This will be our last ever presentation evening in the current school building, as we prepare to move into our new state-of-the-art facility early in 2025.
“This moment marks the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Shimna Integrated College.
Robbie Keenan, Head of Year 14, gave a heartfelt speech in which he recounted the shared experiences that shaped the students' journeys.
Joanne Poland, assistant vice-principal, delivered an inspiring address celebrating success and new beginnings, highlighting the importance of these milestones in shaping bright futures.
She thanked parents, carers and staff for their steadfast support and encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, stay connected to their roots, and celebrate every achievement, big or small, as they embark on new journeys.
The evening also recognised students' individual achievements across a wide array of disciplines.
Among the special awards, Annie Elliott was presented with the Shimna Trophy for Personal Endeavour.
The All Children Together Award for Contribution to Integration was given to Caelan McNamara.
Robbie Gilmore was awarded Academic Excellence for his exceptional achievements and Shreyash Wankhade was honoured with the Frank Kerr Award, donated by the Communication Workers’ Union and Royal Mail in memory of Newry postman Frank Kerr, who was tragically murdered in the first weeks of Shimna’s foundation.
Mr Pagan expressed his gratitude to everyone who had contributed to the event.
He said: “This evening is a testament to the incredible efforts of our students, staff and the supportive families who nurture their success.
“It’s a privilege to celebrate our shared achievements and look forward to a bright future.”
