BREDAGH were crowned Down Intermediate hurling champions with a resounding victory over Carryduff in Saturday’s final.
The South Belfast side expertly dispatched their opponents in a game that saw both teams rack up the points in an entertaining affair.
As each and every player looked to get on the scoresheet in what turned out to be an open game, the three additional goals from Bredagh made all the difference as Ronan Beatty’s Carryduff goal proved fruitless when all was said and done.
There was an end-to-end start to the match as both teams looked to rack up the scoring without overcommitting, each scoring five points within the first 12 minutes.
Bredagh began to pull away as two points in quick succession from Mark Patterson and Ben Christie were followed by the first goal of the game when Eoin Kennedy found the back of the net to widen the gap to 1-8 to 0-5.
Carryduff responded with a goal of their own courtesy of Beatty before each side added a few more points to enter the interval closely matched at 1-11 to 1-7.
Bredagh came flying out of the blocks in the second period, finding their second goal less than a minute into the half.
The teams then went back and forth with a series of points until the eventual winners extended their lead with a well-taken goal from Jarlath McCollum while Tiernan Sheehan was the man in the right place to add a third just minutes later.
The Carryduff players looked lost for ideas and as they scrambled to gain a foothold once again, their opponents asserted their dominance.
As the clock ticked towards its conclusion, the rubber stamp was put on the result as Bredagh smashed home a fourth goal to put the tie to bed and take home the silverware.
