A NEWLY modernised Post Office has opened in Drumaness.

The office was officially opened by South Down MP Margaret Ritchie who was joined by Michael Kerr, Acquisitions Executive for the Henderson Group.

Miss Ritchie it is vital that rural communities have access to local services directly at the point of delivery.

“Drumaness Post Office is a lifeline to many local people,” she said. “At some point throughout the year every resident will need the services of the Post Office. Extended opening hours are welcome and we must ensure that our local post office services are fully utilised in order to maintain these services and hopefully build upon these local services in the future.”

Mr. Kerr said he is delighted with the refurbishment and hope customers like the new modern look.

“We can now sell Post Office products and services from the retail till during shop opening hours which will be a great help to busy customers,” he said.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Northern Ireland, Sheila McCann, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Drumaness and are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community.

She added: “This modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to new-style branches.”

Post Office customers will benefit from opening hours being extended by an extra 69 hours a week. Post Office products and services will available during shop opening hours.
