MOURNE Stars Speech, Drama and Performing Arts pupils had the opportunity to take part in a week-long programme of themed drama activities along with arts and crafts earlier this summer.
From July 8-12 at the Parish Centre in Newcastle, the children immersed themselves in plenty of drama games and activities to promote their confidence, communication and creativity.
The beginners’ group (age 5-7) enjoyed creating their own YouTube videos over the week and developing their communication and presentation skills.
They took part in drama and voice activities to enhance their confidence and vocal articulation. They also enjoyed some arts and crafts to use as backs for their videos.
The junior group (age 8-11) who attended in the afternoons, used improvisation and devising techniques to create their very own podcasts.
Presentation and communication skills were the theme of the week, and the creation of podcasts enhanced their ability to have effective discussions, apply listening skills as well as develop clear use of voice.
Parents got to come along to watch the edited videos in the parish centre at the end of the week where they enjoyed some treats and refreshments.
Every child received a souvenir T-shirt. Each summer there is a special edition colour for the T-shirt and this year the choice was blue which was very popular along with the Mourne Stars logo.
Teacher, Clare McAvoy, thanked all the parents for their support and her assistant, Caragh Quinn, for her help during the camp.
Mourne Stars classes begin again on September 9.
