Council spending could be a little more transparent

SIR, — I would like to challenge Newry, Mourne and Down Council and the Department of Infrastructure to publish all spending of public money for 2019.

As a member of the public who helps to fund their coffers, I believe I am entitled to know where funding goes.

Let’s have an itemised account of all spending including office parties, lunches, Christmas dinners, signage, street cleaning, bin collections, grass verge and hedge cutting, fixing pot holes, wages and top managerial salaries. 

In fact, let us have an itemised bill to explain every expenditure that is funded by public money.
