RESIDENTS of Meadowlands estate in Downpatrick enjoyed a successful community day on Thursday.
Children flocked to the community green for the event, which was hosted by the Inter-Estate Community Project facilitated by County Down Rural Community Network.
There were bouncy castles, obstacle courses, slides, and face–painting. The Fire Service attended with a fire engine for the children to explore and there were relay races, mini-football and martial arts.
Mrs. Ann Grant, from County Down Rural Community Network, said she was delighted with the turn out at the event and the enthusiasm of the local community.
“The children have been a pleasure to work with and this programme of activity has been a great success I hope to build on the success of this project to bring further benefits to the area,” she said.
“I would also like to thank the Policing and Community Safety Partnership for contributing towards the cost of the programme.”
Councillor Carmel O’Boyle, who is chairwoman of Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership, said the organisation was delighted to support initiatives such as the Meadowlands Community Day.
“The people of Meadowlands showed true community spirit by coming out to have fun and more importantly interact with local agencies who wanted to highlight some serious safety measures,” she said.
“We appreciate the hard work of our partner organisations including County Down Rural Community Network, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the PSNI, who make the effort to show local people that our main aim is to work with them and for them to ensure they live in a safe and happy community.”
