BALLYNAGROSS finally got back to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing victory over Killough seconds in Killyleagh on Saturday.
The home side took the lead with just three minutes on the clock, but it came in somewhat fortunate circumstances. A speculative shot from Kieran Taggart 35 yards out took a wicked deflection and looped over the unfortunate ‘keeper to put Ballynagross in front.
The lead was soon doubled. On nine minutes a long throw from Conaill MacNabb was flicked on by Paul O’Reilly (inset) and Ross Armstrong was on hand to slot home from 12 yards.
Ballynagross were in complete control now, and further chances from Fergal Ward and Stephen Moore should have put the game beyond doubt inside 20 minutes.
However, on 26 minutes, neat play from Daryl McGrady and Marty Stratton saw the latter thread a perfect ball to Ritchie Fryer some 30 yards out. Fryer took one look and unleashed an unstoppable shot that gave the ‘keeper no chance.
Just before half-time Matty Teggart went on a mazy run that saw him just send the ball inches past the post.
Killough tried to come in to the game at the start of the second half, but found Harry Clements in nets equal to anything that was put in his path. Stevie Galbraith may have lost his pace, but showed he has lost none of his technique by trying a delightful chip that had Clements at full stretch, tipping over the crossbar.
The home side stepped up a gear and on 60 minutes substitute Cahal Savage beat two players before laying the ball off to Stephen Moore who curled in a delightful shot that gave the ‘keeper no chance once more.
On 75 minutes Armstrong got his second and the home side’s fifth when he was left unmarked on the six yard box from a corner and headed home with ease. A minute later and Killough did get a consolation goal, Kieran Hill netting from 18 yards after good work from Barry Treacy. Ballynagross weren’t finished yet and in injury time Taggart made it 6-1 with a ferocious shot from 20 yards to make it a great day for his side.
