A COURT has heard how around 50 people were drinking in a Newcastle pub after
hours.
Police estimated there were between 40 and 50 people inside Quinn’s Bar when they entered the Main Street premises shortly after 2am on December 16 last year.
The lights were on and door staff were making no attempt to clear the premises, Downpatrick District Court was told.
A prosecution lawyer said one customer admitted to police that he had just bought a drink.
At last Thursday’s Court, Patrick Maginn, the landlord, was fined £1,000 and had his pub licence suspended for two weeks for permitting the consumption of alcohol outside permitted hours.
District Judge Greg McCourt told Maginn (51), of Bryansford Avenue, Newcastle: “Next time your licence will be suspended for months instead of weeks. I would have no sympathy if this happened again.”
