‘Outstanding’ school report for Cumran

‘Outstanding’ school report for Cumran

22 January 2020

CUMRAN Primary School in Clough has received top marks in its latest inspection report.

The school was deemed to be “outstanding” in the three areas that the Education and Training Inspectorate assess for — outcomes for learners, quality of provision and leadership.

The school’s social communication unit — which educates 15 children on the Autism spectrum who have a variety of needs — was also rated as outstanding.

The school currently has 204 pupils with 32 of them on the Special Educational Needs (SEN) register.

Eight of the pupils have statements of educational need.

The inspection report praised the pupils in its key findings for their achievements and learning and said: “In this school, the children lead the learning. The children work effectively and take personal responsibility for working collaboratively with their peers.

“They seek and respect fully the views and opinions of each other, and take great pride in sharing their learning with others.”

The report also said that the children’s behaviour was “exemplary” and described the outcomes for children in literary, numeracy and ICT and the school’s leadership as “outstanding”.

Cumran PS was also praised for achieving ICT awards, which included the Digital School of Distinction Award, the Capital Excellence Award and two National Association of Advisors for Computers in Education.

It has also been accredited as a ‘Thinking School’, a rights respecting school at silver level and an ambassador Eco School, holding an eighth green flag.

School principal, Mrs Rhonda Moles, said she and the staff were delighted.

“Cumran has yet again achieved the ‘outstanding’ category in every area — the quality of education provided,

quality of the children’s achievements and standards, the provision for learning, leadership and management and pastoral care.”

Mrs Moles said Cumran Primary is committed to providing the best possible education for children, with the inspection report recognising that the children are at the heart of all decision making in school and that they lead the learning.

She added: “This is a great affirmation for all in the school community and identifies Cumran as being at the forefront of primary education.

“I would like to thank the hard working and committed staff, the supportive governors and parents and highly motivated children for making our school the success it is.”

Cumran opened as a new school in May 2015 following the amalgamation of Clough and Downshire Primary Schools.
