SOMETHING was cooking in the kitchen of Daisy Lodge in Newcastle with three of Ulster Rugby’s best.

Captain Rory Best and team-mates Jacob Stockdale and Louis Ludik visited the centre which gives children with cancer and their families a welcome short break.

The players took part in a ‘Can’t Cook Won’t Cook’ demonstration last Wednesday at the Cancer Fund for Children’s therapeutic short break facility.

Celebrity chef Paula McIntyre hosted the event which raised over £2,200 to help provide practical, financial and emotional support to children diagnosed with cancer and children who have a parent diagnosed with cancer.

Joan Burden, Cancer Fund for Children’s Hospitality Manager, said: “The players were great craic and really took to the challenge, tackling courses including carbonara, T-bone steak with pepper sauce and an intricate apple and meringue desert. They demonstrated that it’s really not that hard to make tasty hearty food.”

She thanked Jason and Jackie Hamilton from Carnbooke Meats, Dromara, who sponsored and helped organise this event, as well as host  Paula McIntrye and the players for putting their culinary skills to the test.
