A STAGE-STRUCK Killough girl has scooped a major award at the musical theatre world’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Skye Gracey won the Best Youth in an Adult Show award at the prestigious Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards in Killarney.
Thirteen year-old Skye was a member of the cast in the St Patrick’s Choral Society’s highly acclaimed production of The Sound of Music.
The show was performed in front of sell-out audiences at the Downshire Great Hall in Downpatrick over five nights in March.
Skye received the award for her outstanding performance as Brigitta – one of the Von Trapp children.
Her portrayal was praised for its charm, confidence, and emotional depth – qualities that stood out in a highly competitive field.
Skye received the award from AIMS president Gerry Sweeney and vice-president Sheamus Power. The show was compered by RTE radio presenter Fergal D’Arcy.
The AIMS awards recognise and celebrate the achievement of independent artists in musical theatre, acknowledging innovation, creativity and outstanding performance.
The choral society held a special celebration event in honour of Skye’s success on Sunday afternoon.
Chairperson Marie Therese Ross shared her joy at the recognition, describing Syke as an “extraordinary young talent”.
She continued: “From the moment she stepped into rehearsals, she brought a spark that lit up the entire production. Her dedication, professionalism, and natural stage presence are beyond her years. We are absolutely thrilled to see her talent recognised on a national stage.”
Marie Therese added: “This award is not just a win for Skye, but for our entire society. It reflects the hard
work, passion, and community spirit that goes into every one of our productions.”
Skye’s delighted parents, Mark and Elena, said: “We are incredibly proud of our daughter for winning the AIMS Award for her outstanding performance in The Sound of Music.
“Her dedication and talent have truly impressed everyone and this recognition reflects the hard work she has put into her craft.
“Watching her shine on stage has been a joy and we can’t wait to see where her passion for acting takes her next.”
The award marks a significant milestone for both Skye and the society, reinforcing their reputation for nurturing young talent and delivering high-quality musical theatre.
