BRILLIANT guitarist Thibaut Garcia is to play at the Portico in Portaferry.
A Frenchman with Spanish blood, 23-year-old Thibaut is an extraordinarily gifted guitarist, in whose hands the full sonic spectrum of the instrument is brought to life.
Performing in Portaferry on Sunday, May 27, at 2pm, as part of the Festiv’Ards festival, Thibaut’s programme will include works from his debut album Leyendas, showcasing his musical heritage with works by Rodrigo, Piazzolla, de Falla and Manjón, as well as pieces from his forthcoming second album, a tribute to J.S. Bach.
Portico’s manager, Dr Verity Peet, said: “We are delighted to have Thibaut Garcia coming to Portaferry.
“He is quite simply the hottest young guitarist in Europe right now. What I love about him is his ability to play beautiful classics but with a really modern edge to it.”
Supported by Ards and North Down Borough Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Festiv’Ards is a four-day classical music festival, taking place at Portico Arts and Heritage Centre in Portaferry from May 25 to 28.
Now in its third year, this bank holiday weekend festival is a celebration of the best in classical music.
Other highlights include star choral group The Tallis Scholars on Saturday at 7.30pm and the glorious mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge on Monday at 2pm.
Chamber music comes in the form of Irish pianist Michael McHale and violinist Patrick Rafter (Saturday, 2pm) and the Ficino Ensemble (Sunday, 7.30pm).
