Year 12 student Annie McWilliams has secured a place in this year’s Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers competition which takes place next March.

Annie is one of the winners of the regional heats with her project entitled ‘The Olympics Game for Museums’ impressing the judges.

As part of the project, Annie has produced a game which tests the user’s knowledge of the Olympic Games.

Dr Hilary Leevers, Engineering UK chief executive, said Annie really impressed the judges with her project.

“We are excited to see how she does at the UK finals,” he said. “It is a huge achievement to progress to this stage of the competition and Annie should be incredibly proud to take up her place and compete at The Big Bang Fair in March 2020.”

Approaching its 12th year in 2020, The Big Bang Fair continues to be a great source of STEM inspiration for young people.

Dr Leevers added: “The competition provides an amazing opportunity for young visitors, their teachers and parents to get hands-on with a wide range of activities, workshops and shows, and engage in meaningful career conversations with professionals, all designed to bring classroom learning to life and inspire the next generation.”

The competition finals take place at The Big Bang Fair at Birmingham’s NEC when Annie will vying for top prizes including the coveted title of GSK UK Young Engineer and GSK UK Young Scientist of the Year.
