OWENBEG B...................................................3
OWENBEG A..................................................7
THE two Owenbeg sides met each other in the Lecale Table Tennis League and it was the A team that claimed the bragging rights.
They got off to a good start, with the in-form Hugh Scott showing his attacking prowess to sweep Dan McEvoy aside in straight games.
John McEvoy improves with every game he plays and lost a four-game encounter with Pat Mulholland by just four points.
The third member of the McEvoy team, the talented Manus, also lost a close four-game match as he was edged out by Jason Gill.
The A team made it 4-0 with victory in the doubles match, before Mulholland widened their lead after beating Dan McEvoy.
In spite of trailing heavily, the B team were determined to get some something for their efforts and John McEvoy got them up and running with their first win on the card.
However, despite Manus McEvoy’s gallant effort, he was unable to prevent Scott from securing the points for the A team.
Dan McEvoy responded to beat Jason Gill and although John McEvoy also enjoyed a triumph in the final game, the A team already had the result sewn up.

THE scoreline flattered Strangford A after their B team made them work for every point.
Rory McSwiggan scored well in the early action, but ultimately, lost in straight sets to Colin McKinty.
Nuala Hynds also put in a good performance when she lost by a similar score against Marty Trainor.
Michael Deery always gives his best should be pleased with his point scoring against the club’s number one, Joe McConville, in a three-game match.
