Newcastle Lions to hold collection for victims of tower fire

21 June 2017

A LOCAL organisation is to hold a street collection to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell tower fire in London.

Newcastle Lions Club will host the collection in the resort on Friday, June 23, and club members are appealing for people to give generously to the event.

“Like all Lions charity collections, 100% of the money raised will go to the victims,” said a Lions spokesman this week.

“If Friday is not suitable for those who wish to donate to the victims of Grenfell Tower, please text the Lions on 07725 725932. While our numbers may be small on Friday, the main collecting point will be out on the street at Railway Street.

“The Lions will be trying to get as much publicity about the collection and hope in turn that other towns in Northern Ireland can be inspired by the generosity of Newcastle,” he added.

The Lions recently hosted the annual senior citizens outing which this year went to the Ulster Scots Centre in Belfast.

The group then headed for a drive through the Ards Peninsula and dinner at Harrison’s of Greyabbey. The club wishes to thank  Rooney  International, the Ulster Scots Centre and Harrison’s of Greyabbey.
