A NEW pedestrian crossing is to be provided at the Belfast Road in Ballynahinch, close to the town’s High School.
The news was confirmed following a meeting between Department for Infrastructure representatives and local politicians last week.
The Belfast Road is one of the most busiest in the district with the new pedestrian crossing welcomed by Strangford MLA Harry Harvey and Rowallane councillor Jonny Jackson.
Work on the new crossing is expected to be completed before the end of the financial year.
Cllr Jackson said the provision of the new crossing is “great news” for Ballynahinch.
Along with Mr Harvey, he has been working on the delivery of the crossing at a main roadwhich carries a huge amount of traffic daily.
“The new crossing will ensure students can cross this particularly busy road safely,” said Cllr Jackson.
“And while the crossing is important for students, it is also equally for residents who live at this part of the town.”
Cllr Jackson said he hopes the crossing will be in place by the end of next March as envisaged by roads department officials.
