VOLUNTEERS from the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team went to the assistance of a child who sustained an injury while descending Slieve Donard last Friday.
The alarm was raised at 2pm to assist the child who was with other family members at the time of the incident. With the help of other walkers, the family members were able to carry the child along the track ahead of the volunteers arriving.
Rescue team members were also joined by Ambulance Service and Hazardous Area Response Team personnel.
The injured child was subsequently treated and stretchered to a waiting ambulance and transferred to hospital, with the 17 rescue team volunteers who responded to the emergency standing down at 5pm.
