Mourne Mountain Rescue Team attend injured walker

6 September 2017

MEMBERS of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team went to the assistance of an injured walker last Friday afternoon.

The man had been walking in the Annalong Valley area when he fell sustaining upper body injuries.

The team responded and located the casualty beside the Blue Lough at the foot of Slieve Lamagan where he was assessed and treated for suspected arm and shoulder fractures.

The casualty was prepared for evacuation and as a result of his condition and the area where he had fallen, the mountain rescue team requested the assistance of an Ambulance Service paramedic and the Irish Coastguard helicopter.

The injured walker was winched aboard the aircraft and flown to hospital in Belfast where he was treated for his injuries. A total of 17 members of the mountain rescue team responded to last Friday’s incident and stood down shortly before 7.30pm.

Last weekend, a street collection in Castlewellan in support of the mountain rescue team raised £2,038. The fundraising event was organised by Nat Pierson and the Fundraising for Heroes of The Hills group.
