AT 76 years-old, pensioner Margaret Kerr has no intention of becoming a couch potato.
The Moneyrea woman has just raised £5,000 for the local Leukaemia and Lymphoma group in memory of her late husband Mervyn.
With the company and support of her grandson Ben, she walked 100 miles over five consecutive days, always with a different route that led her back to Moneyrea.
Her family and friends cheered her on as she arrived into the Auld House pub on her final walk.
Margaret is no stranger to charity endeavours and most that she undertakes are intrepid.
She carried out a parachute jump and a wing walk for her chosen charities, both of which raised many thousands of pounds due to Margaret’s ability to involve local businesses and friends in the funding of her charitable activities.
Other activities included zip-lining over the River Lagan and abseiling down the Europa Hotel in Belfast.
Margaret has also regularly organised a charity Big Breakfast in her home village hall where all the food items were either donated or provided at cost.
Due to her clever food sourcing and the large amount of people who turn up, her Big Breakfast is an event that which raises lots of money for good causes.
Having been a senior manager in the mental health sector of the NHS during her working life, Margaret also has been a volunteer for a number of dementia charities and is currently involved with Community Dementia Care (CDC), a group that provides activities for local people living with dementia in various local centres.
Friend and supporter Rodney Shortell praised Margaret on her latest achievement.
“Well done to SuperGran Margaret Kerr. All her family, friends and sponsors are rightly proud of her great achievement,” he said.
