Liz celebrates Barbara’s day

10 July 2019

IT was the turn of the ladies to take centre stage at Crossgar Golf Club on Saturday when Liz Murray won Barbara Wootton’s Lady Captain’s Day competition with 40 points.

With the weather set fair and the course in great condition, everyone knew that only their best golf was going to get them in the mix.

Maeve Fay continued her good form winning the front nine prize, but wavered on the back nine whilst Sheila Hillis ,after a poor start, got it together to snatch the back nine prize.

Nuala Hynds played superb golf to sign for 37 points and secure the section B prize with Monica Magee similarly playing well to win section A with a respectable 36 points.

The Past Captains’ Trophy went to Barbara Clarke whilst Isobel Hyde won the committee award. Guest Prize was won by Hilary McHenry with Maeve Fay winning the longest drive.

The men’s section was every bit as competitive with John Lyons setting the early pace with 40 points before Tucker Price continued his good form to take the lead signing for 41 points. The winner, though, was Neil Hanvey who was securing his second win of the season with a superb 43 points.

Davy Watson again won the gross, restricting himself to 65 strokes for a great round.  The men’s guest prize went the way of Brian Curry with Tony Morgan winning the nearest the pin. Evergreen Malachy Magee put the young hotshots in their place winning the longest drive.

Barbara Wootton, thanked all those who had helped her in any way to make the day such a success and those present after the prize giving helped her happily dance the night away.
