Irish title for young Jaxon

Irish title for young Jaxon

16 January 2019

WINTER  blues were banished at Spa Golf Club last week when eight year-old Jaxon Wardlow — with a little help from his dad — brought a major title and  gold medals back  home.

Along with his father Gary, the club’s head

professional, mini-golfer Jaxon won the Irish Junior Open Series at Black Bush Golf Club, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, with an impressive score of 16 under par — seven shots ahead of the competition.

The father and-son event, sponsored by Flogas, attracted 140 competitors and as well as the trophy-and medals gave Jaxon automatic entry into the singles version due to be played at Portmarnock in February.

“Jaxon played exceptionally well, carding two 2s over the 18 holes in the U-9 section, and took the whole experience in his stride,” proud dad Gary said.

“This competition is a great way for young golfers to experience some of the best courses in Ireland and I would encourage all parents and their children to seriously consider taking part,” he added.

Gary paid tribute to Killymoon-based Michael Gallagher, of MG Golf, who organised and supervised the event in such an efficient and enjoyable way.

Parents with children keen to take up golf may be interested in the junior coaching sessions beginning at Spa next Wednesday evening, January 23.

The sessions last one hour from 6pm to 7pm and will be held on a fortnightly basis until the beginning to March. Full details are available from Gary on 028 9756 2365.
