Free health checks available at Killyleagh

18 April 2018

RESIDENTS in Killyleagh and the surrounding areas will soon be able to take advantage of free health checks.

Action Cancer and Farm Families buses will be providing basic health checks for men and women at The Showgrounds, home of Killyleagh YC, on the Comber Road on Friday, May 4.

The event is being sponsored by the Rowallane District Electoral Area Forum (DEA), in partnership with the County Down Rural Community Network.

Roisin Mulgrew, chairwoman of Newry, Mourne and Down Council Chairperson, Roisin Mulgrew said she was pleased that people from the area would have the opportunity to use the free service.

“Taking care of our health, knowing whether we are suffering from high cholesterol, high blood pressure or are at risk of diabetes, often gets lost as we go about our busy lives,” she said.

We all know that diet and exercise are essential, but it is just as important to understand our overall health risks.

“I know that those from the farming community, particularly men, find it difficult to make the time to go to the doctor and the Farm Families bus at this event provides a good opportunity to get a quick health check.

“In addition, the Action Cancer Bus will also be there to provide breast screening. The professionals in attendance at the event will be able give advice, guidance and support to help you lead a longer and healthier life.”

She added: “I would encourage everyone in the area to make their appointments as soon as possible, as there are limited places. Come along on May 4 to check that you and your family are on the right track with your health.”

Those wishing to book an appointment with the Farm Families Bus should contact Patricia Martin or Lise Curran on 028 4461 2311, while appointments for the Action Cancer Big Bus may be booked directly on 028 9080 3344, or alternatively at www.actioncancer.org.
