THE family of a Newcastle man who died in Amsterdam nearly three years ago have donated £5,500 to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

Connor Murphy, from King Street, had been working in the Dutch capital for three years as a chef.

The 39-year-old was reported missing after a night out and his body was recovered from a canal weeks later.

His family from the Bryansford area presented the money to Mr Colin Bell, the father of the young man the charity is named after.

Kevin, who was from Newry, was killed in a car accident while living in New York in 2013. His family set up the trust to help other families bring home the bodies of loved ones who died abroad.

A statement from the Murphy family said: “We wish to sincerely thank the Ward family for their generous donation in respect of Connor’s late uncle, Mr John Ward.

“Monies were also raised by guests attending the wedding of Connor’s sister Rebecca to Mr Johnny Lennon.

“The family would also like to thank the community of Downpatrick and surrounding area for their generous support and donations to the #Letsfindmurf JustGiving page established back in 2019.”
