OVER 200 people of all ages took part in the Downpatrick District Electoral Area Forum’s health and wellbeing event at Meadow Playing Fields, Ardglass, last Wednesday.
The event was organised in conjunction with the County Down Rural Community Network, Ardglass Festival Association and the Education Authority.
As well as the important health checks that were offered on the day, breast screening was provided through the Action Cancer bus.
There was a festive atmosphere on the day, with a wide range of activities available.
Young people were able to enjoy the climbing wall, mountain biking and archery, while adults took part in Zumba and yoga.
Following the action-packed afternoon, a very successful 5k and 10k run took place that evening with over 170 participants.
Cllr Oonagh Hanlon, Downpatrick DEA chairwoman, said: “This was an excellent opportunity for people of Ardglass and the surrounding areas to take part in an excellent health initiative.
“Every year people strive to become fitter and healthier and, although a good diet and exercise regime is recommended, most people will forget about the basic requirements of checking their own health.
“People can be unaware that they are heading towards diabetes, suffering from high cholesterol or high blood pressure and this event has provided them with the opportunity to get all these checked.”
