Bright future for Spa Golf Club

Bright future for Spa Golf Club

28 July 2021

THE sale of Spa Golf Club has been confirmed this week.

The club, which had been in financial difficulties, has been bought by businessman Rodney Lowry.

Mr Lowry is the chief executive officer of Lowe Rental Ltd, a major company which is based in Lisburn.

Mr Lowry said he was “absolutely delighted” to have acquired what he described as a “prestigious site”.

“I was aware of the situation facing the club and when meeting delegates from the committee I could see the determination and energy they had to be the best in the business,” he remarked.

“It will be interesting indeed to see the club’s development now that the financial burden of several years of difficult trading conditions are removed.”

Mr Lowry added: “I wish all the members of the club much success as they move into a new development era and personally, I am looking forward to ‘a good walk never spoiled’.”

In a statement, Spa Golf Club said it was grateful to the captain, Gordon Martin, and council members “who worked hard to make this happen”.

Mr Martin commented: “It would have been better had the members been able to retain ownership of the club’s fixed assets but that was not to be.

“The main thing is that Spa Golf Club will continue as a members’ club and that thanks to Rodney’s investment, it will have the opportunity to prosper and grow.”

Mr Martin added: “The members can continue to enjoy playing this wonderful course for many years to come.”
