Ambitious plans for supermarket

16 August 2017

PLANS have been unveiled for a new retail unit and the extension of existing guesthouse accommodation in Castlewellan.

Planning permission is being sought to demolish existing buildings between Hillyard House at Castle Avenue and 21 to 23 Main Street in the town centre.

The town’s Fresh Food Centre is behind the development plan to provide a new three storey building featuring a ground floor retail unit with delivery bay, first floor storage, offices and staff facilities.

The second floor has been earmarked for a plant area and will also form part of the extension to existing guesthouse accommodation to provide nine new bedrooms. Permission is also being sought for a change of use of an existing kitchen, dining and courtyard area at the guesthouse to provide a new kitchen/cafe.

The planning application will now be determined by Newry, Mourne and Down Council planners.
